Slimline Twist Pen in Stabilised Buckeye Burl with Polished Copper Hardware.

The Ohio buckeye (Aesculus glabra), a 10 to 30 m tall deciduous tree or shrub, is native to North America and a representative of the buckeye (Aesculus) with two varieties, the main difference being the leaves.

The wood, yellowish-white to a faint reddish-brown hue, shows nearly no colour differences between heartwood and sapwood; the large burls in particular are highly in demand. Overall rather soft and susceptible to fungus and insect infestation, it is characterised by an even, fine-grained structure and is used in furniture making, flooring, but also in the construction of musical instruments. Despite its twisted growth, it is relatively easy to work, as long as the tools are well adjusted and sharpened. The treatment of the surfaces does not pose any difficulties either.
