The camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) has its home mainly in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It grows between 65 and 100 feet tall, is an evergreen, and a member of the laurel family. The camphor obtained from this tree is a white, crystalline substance used in medicine, as incense, and even as a spice.
The wood is medium hard and moderately heavy. It is very good to work with and the spectacular camphor scent will clear your sinuses as you work with it. Camphor wood is rather good-natured, submissive, and rarely cracks.
